Rasuwa Flash Floods 2026

On the morning of 26 August 2026 a flash flood surged down the Bhote Koshi and Trishuli rivers in Rasuwa district, following an ice and rock avalanche and the temporary damming of the Lhende Khola north of the border. Districts affected include Rasuwa, Nuwakot, Dhading and Chitwan in Bagmati Province, and Gorkha and Tanahun in Gandaki Province. (Government of Nepal / WHO Nepal, 31 August 2026)

The Ministry of Health activated the Health Emergency Operation Centre (HEOC) and the Health Cluster, co-chaired by WHO, on the day of onset. Emergency Medical Teams were deployed from Kathmandu, and the Government of Nepal declared 15 municipalities disaster crisis-affected for three months. WHO released US$ 150,000 from its South-East Asia Regional Health Emergency Fund and supplied Interagency Emergency Health Kits covering 10,000 people for three months. (WHO Nepal, 30 August 2026)
